Chapter 1300
The chances of marrying Lysander were pretty high if the woman was recognized by Zephyr.
Susan couldn’t mask her disappointment as she realized her moment of playing the heroine had all been for naught. She had imagined herself basking in Lysander’s affection, standing proudly by his side for all to see in the future.
Even if she didn’t end up marrying him, becoming his lady like Thalassa seemed pretty likely. But before Lysander could even utter a word, Zephyr had shot her down.
The higher Susan’s hopes had soared, the deeper her spirits now plunged.
She was fuming, and she wasn’t about to let Thalassa off the hook. She spitefully reminded Thalassa that her days of bliss were numbered, that Lysander would soon marry another woman.
Thalassa snapped out of her daze, her melancholic gaze sharpening as she glared at Susan. “Save your pity for yourself. After all you’ve schemed, all you got was just a medical bill,” she spat out before storming out of the ward.
“You-argh!” Susan choked on her anger. The previous slap from Thalassa combined with the stinging words, sent her into a fury. She grabbed the bouquet from the bedside table and hurled it to the ground, screaming at the top of her lungs.
“Susan, calm down,” Lucy pleaded, trying to soothe her daughter.
Bruce’s face was like thunder. He had thought his daughter was about to transform from a nobody into a phoenix. Now all they had got a mere coverage of the medical expense! His plans to cash in crumbled, and how could he not be angry?
Meanwhile, Ethan found the whole spectacle rather amusing.
What a bunch of phonies, he thought to himself. They flip-flopped faster than actors in play, changing their tune to suit whoever they faced. He had never seen such hypocrisy up close.
“Susan did save Lysander. It’s only right that he covers the medical fees,” Ethan remarked nonchalantly before following Thalassa out.
The family was left seething at Ethan’s words, their cheeks burning with humiliation.
“Damn it!” Susan exclaimed, tossing a pillow violently to the floor, her face twisted with
rage.
Lucy continued to pat her back soothingly. “Susan, try to stay calm, dear. You’re still injured, and the doctor said you need rest. Don’t do anything rash that might worsen your wounds.”

Chapter 1300
The injury on Susan’s shoulder blade could easily tear open if she wasn’t careful. But she couldn’t swallow the bitterness of defeat, turning to her mother in frustration. “Didn’t you hear what Thalassa and Ethan said? I saved Lysander and got nothing but just the hospital bill!”
And she might be left with a big scar on her back.
“Didn’t Zephyr leave a bodyguard to protect you?” Lucy tried to offer some solace. “I know that damned Thalassa is infuriating, and I’m angry too. But we need to keep our cool for now. Lysander is already having doubts about Thalassa. Their relationship is fragile and ready to break. That’s when you make
your move.”
Seeing her daughter slapped by Thalassa and then rejected by Zephyr, Lucy was livid.
But what could they do? They had no choice but to bide their time and wait for another opportunity.
“Your mom’s right, Susan. You still have a chance. With Lysander’s bodyguard here, you can reach out to Lysander through him. Having a bodyguard is a privilege, one that even Thalassa doesn’t have. So, you’re still in the game,” Bruce finally regained his composure. Though Lucy was known for her fiery temper and wasn’t one to back down from a fight, she always knew what to do when it truly mattered, and her advice was often spot on.
That was a big reason why, despite his disdain for Lucy, Bruce had never gone through with a divorce. Sometimes, her suggestions were so sound that even he couldn’t help but
agree.
