Chapter 1316
Thalassa’s tears trembled as they fell, splashing onto the paper.
Her heart tightened, anger and frustration making her breath shake, her body feeling unsteady as it staggered backward.
“Thalassa, are you alright?” Seeing her overcome with grief, Ethan stepped forward, steadying her shoulders with his hands, his voice laced with concern.
Susan had been terrified by Lysander’s furious glare, but as he stormed off, she snapped back to reality and marched over to Thalassa, her voice haughty, “This is all because of you. Now Lysander even hates me.”
Her words cut through Thalassa like a sharp knife.
With tearful eyes, Thalassa glared back at Susan, her voice trembling with rage, “Do you know who the woman on the first page is? She’s Lysander’s mother, Belinda!”
“What?!” Susan froze, shock coursing through her, a cold sensation rising from the soles
of her feet to the crown of her head.
Her father had an affair with Lysander’s mother!
As the enormity of her mistake dawned on her, Susan realized she had not only fueled Lysander’s hatred for Thalassa but also destroyed her own chances.
She was familiar with the contents of the folder. Belinda had died while planning to elope
with Bruce.
Susan gasped, suddenly realizing why Lysander had said that no one from Bruce’s family would escape the consequences.
Susan’s legs went weak, as if death was just around the corner.
Ethan, still unclear about what had transpired, grasped the situation upon hearing Belinda’s name.
Lysander had lost his parents at a young age, and their deaths were no accident.
The whole sordid story of Belinda’s affair and demise was detailed in that file, explaining Lysander’s fury and misery.
“Thalassa, let me take you home,” Ethan offered, his hand on Thalassa’s shoulder, feeling her body tremble with anger and sorrow.
As Thalassa’s boss, it pained him to see her this way.
Thalassa took a deep breath, trying to expel the heavy, angry air from her lungs, and handed Ethan the folder, “Please burn it, Mr. Ethan.”

The existence of that file was an additional torment for the women involved.
Bruce, that monster, was beyond redemption!
He deserved the worst of fates!
“Alright, I’ll do it now,” Ethan said, taking the folder from Thalassa. He pulled out a lighter from his pocket and set the papers ablaze without a glance, a sign of respect for both Thalassa and Lysander.
The humiliating documents turned to ash soon.
Thalassa watched the remaining embers, a suffocating feeling in her chest making it hard to breathe.
The words in the folder could be burnt to ash, but the events they recorded had happened; how could they ever be erased?
Ethan drove Thalassa back to Star Harbor Villa. As she entered the house, she saw her mother mopping the floor.
Her busy silhouette was just as she remembered.
Thalassa’s eyes instantly welled up, and she moved to embrace her.
Evelyn stopped, feeling Thalassa cling to her like a child. She halted her chore and gently held Thalassa’s hand, her voice filled with tenderness, “Did something upset you today?”
Fighting back tears, Thalassa shook her head, “No. It’s just… it feels so good to have you,
Mom.”
“Sweetheart, I’m always here for you, aren’t I?” Evelyn said with a smile, her voice as comforting as a lullaby.
